Jaime Makinde (June 21, 1959) comes from Havana, but the inspiration for his work lies in Africa. He sends out his messengers into the world of the animalistic and the divine that are the mediators between man’s light and dark sides. His works are infused with the images of the Afro-Cuban Santoria religion. He use traditional materials of art in connection with elements of contemporary art and surrealism. In his works one finds fantastic constructions and confusing landscapes with organic formations. Everything seems to be in constant change. His works request the viewer to dare look at the secrets behind rules and laws, to open doors, to enter areas or follow floating objects. He has lived and works in Renchen, Germany since 1997.
