"Episoden 5" by Walther Katzenstein. Woodblock on tissue, (5 1/2 in. x 7 3/4 in. image, 9 7/8 in. x 10 1/2 in. sheet). This print is "Episode" 1 of a portfolio of 6 prints. This portfolio of woodblock prints by German artist Walther Katzenstein from the 1920's captures the Weimar Republic after WW I. The prints are wonderful, graphic representations of the decadence of Germany during the interwar period, its mania, its depression, its sexual depravity and anarchy are displayed in these wonderful graphic depictions. Katzenstein was working at the same time as other Expressionist greats including, George Grosz, Otto Dix, and Max Ernst. The prints of this portfolio are in excellent condition and are priced individually. $650.00.
