Description

Frank Lloyd Wright Cement Block Mold for the Samuel Freeman House (1923).  Excellent condition, no marks, chips or scratches. (15 1/2in H x 15 1/2in W x 1 1/2in D)  Cement mold for the Samuel Freeman house (1923), one of Frank Lloyd Wright's  four "Textile Block" houses in the Los Angeles area.  The mold a bears a certificate by the Trust for Preservation of Cultural Heritage to Simon Brudenell Loace, "This certificate of appreciation for generous support of the efforts to preserve and restore the historic Ennis-Brown house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright." The block also bears a certificate from the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Foundation, Oak Park, Ill with the following inscription:  FREEMAN HOUSE PANNEL -- iN THE 1920'S FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT DESIGNED FOUR "textile block" houses for the Los Angeles area.  Concrete blocks were made in forms at the construction site and then "knit" together with steel reinforcing bars that ran both vertically and horizontally.  Some blocks were plain and some were patterend; in others glass was inserted in perforations in the pattern.  This design is from the Samuel Freeman house (1923).  This unique block is both lovely and a real piece of architural history.
