A LOUNGE YOU SAY??? The Flamingo Collectors Lounge at Design / Miami was created by Tabanlioglu Architects. It captures the essential pink feel of Miami Beach and translates it into a beautiful rationalistic design, converting this 5-meter x 20-meter space into a magical place to escape the hustle and bustle and color overload of the show.
The lounge was designed by taking the 20 meter space and dividing it into squares, providing four distinct areas, the greeting section is a "plus" sign, next comes a counter area for dispensing drinks and information, then a circle with a dot in the center affords and incredibly comfortable and well tought out area for conversation! This is where we sat with Melkan Gursel and talked about the work done by her and her firm in bringing this space to Design Miami. The last section is comprised of five rectangular 35" tall pedestals where visitors can stand and consume beverages and information! The minimalist design is reflected in the mirrored ceiling tiles...a great surprise! All the materials are meant to enhance sustainability and will be donated to Design Miami for further use. The material is cast-poured resin and the process was completed in Dakkar. Here too, I see and feel the PASSION FOR DESIGN that the entire group exhibits!
