David Robertson Smith, formerly a designer a designer of Stickley Brothers Arts and Crafts lines, was hired in 1928 by Johnson-Handley-Johnson, a sister company of The Johnson Furniture Company. They asked had him create an “Art Modern” line of furniture, it was called Dynamique Creations and was America’s first complete line of modern furniture.
The line was an American take on French furniture as exhibited circa the 1925 Paris Exposition with more than a passing nod to Paul Frankl’s Skyscraper Furniture. Exotic veneers and fine craftsmanship make the Dynamique Creations line some of the best of American art deco.
Dynamique Creations was marketed from 1928 through 1936.
