Italian Art Deco bedroom suite. This is an absolutely exemplary and complete Art Deco bedroom suite from Milan, Italy, circa mid-1920's. Its introduction is attributed to the Art Deco World's Fair held in Paris in 1925 (see a similar suite from Red Baron's 2002 catalog write up in the last image). There is a massive scale to all pieces in this suite. Comprised of triple door armoire with bevelled mirror center door, headboard/footboard/rails, built in hinged, integrated swing-away bedside chevets attached to headboard, and a large very functional dressing chest. For his and hers personal items the dressing chest features separate hinged covered storage areas adorned with the same exquisite inlays as on the main pieces. Each piece is clad with intricate bas reliefs and floral banding, surmounted with figural cherubim, inlaid with a stylized floral motif and mounted with light fixtures. Exquisite materials have been used throughout this suite including mother of pearl inlays as the flower centers with delicate exotic wood inlays forming the petals with another exotic wood inlay creating an Art Nouveau like pattern. Main woods on suite are exotics Rosewood with Satinwood and Pearwood accents.
The magnificent suite features original lamps along with their original white frosted globes located at the top of every piece (original white round globes are shown on all pieces except bed ... we have them and they are available). The bed supports queen without any additional modifications required. If requested and desired, a sympathetic approach to increasing the bed's width to king is possible in our on-site studio; please inquire. Original heavily veined Portoro black marble tops are found on the bedside tables and dressing chest in excellent condition. Cast bronze cherubs adorn the footboard and the dressing chest posts along with cast bronze plaques and other details create many works of art. Main bronze plaque over headboard celebrates Mary, Joseph and Christ.
This suite represents a massive and magnificent testament to the quality of materials, design and workmanship coming from Italy during the Art Deco era. It is museum quality and home ready from Deco-Dence Gallery & Studio.
