Goldscheider

The Austrian firm, Goldscheider Manufactury and Majolica Factory, was founded in Vienna in 1885 by Friedrich Goldscheider who came originally from Pilsen in Bohemia.   The company grew and became one of the most important makers of terracotta, faience and bronze decorative items in Austria eventually spreading to France, Germany and Italy.  The artists that worked for Goldscheider included Josef Lorenzl, Stefan Dakon, Ida Meisinger and Michael Powolny and Vally Wieselthier.   In 1938 the family moved to England to escape Nazi persecution.  By then, the founder, Friedrich Goldscheider had died leaving a great legacy to his children.
