Description

This is an original painting by the composer, painter, and ceramicist Willy Stahl (1896 -1963). His father, William Stahl, was a portrait artist in New York. Stahl moved to California in the early 1930s and worked as a composer, creating musical scores for many early movies. He was also a painter, ceramicist and amateur archaeologist. Two of his paintings are owned by the Carnegie Museum of Art.
This original painting is signed and dated in the lower right and titled by the artist in the lower left. The framed painting measures 15 3/4" wide by 16 3/4" high. The image is 10 3/8" wide by 11 5/8" high. It is framed in a simple wood frame that is original to the painting and shows some age and wear. On the back of the picture is a label from the Charles Barzansky Galleries on Madison Ave. in NYC.
There is a small amount of water staining on the back at the lower left. This is barely seen on the front lower right corner of the matting. The image is in excellent condition. The mat has some age darkening.
