This spectacular American art deco aluminum wall plaque was designed by sculptor Rene Chambellan (1893-1955) one of the foremost practitioners of the art deco style in America. His work is in such deco architectural icons as the American Radiator Building, Chicago Tribune Building, Daily News Building and most famously in the Chanin Building. The aluminum plaque which shows, in low relief, two parakeets or lovebirds against a stylized deco ground is 12 ¼” high and 8 ¾” wide. The plaque is signed on the lower right “Rene P. Chambellan, N.Y. City.” It is also marked on the reverse “Alcoa. 43. Alloy, the US Aluminum Co., Fairfield. Conn, Patt #4406”.
