“Harvest” a large and important oil on canvas painting by André Hofer (1890 – 1973), French. This French art deco era painting shows a reclining man sampling grapes and being attended by four Rubenesque nudes. Hofer exhibited regularly at the Salon de Independents from 1912 on but earned his fame illustrating works by Kipling, Pearl Buck, Baudelaire, Balzac, Anatol France, Goethe, Victor Hugo and Oscar Wilde among others. The painting which is 77” high and 97” wide is signed and dated on the lower right “André Hofer 1924”.
