This four piece American art deco Diplomat coffee set designed by Walter Von Nessen (1889 – 1943) for the Chase Brass and Copper company in 1933 is rarely seen in copper. The story goes that Von Nessen, on being retained by Chase, wandered through their warehouse and discovered a stock of unused fluted tubing in their inventory and modified it to make the Diplomat coffee set. In 1933 it was one of his first designs for Chase. The copper set “earned for Von Nessen an Award of Merit from the National Alliance of Art and Industry”. This # 17029 Diplomat Coffee Set and # 17030 Round Tray are in great original condition with a soft glowing patina. The back Catalin handles and knobs match the tray inset. The coffee pot is 8” high, the sugar bowl is 4” high and the creamer is 2 ¾” high. The tray is 10 ½” in diameter. The coffee pot and creamer are marked with the Chase Centaur symbol.
