Description

1937 woodcut from the rare portfolio, "A GIFT TO BIROBIDZHAN: CHICAGO 1937 From Despair to New Hope". The portfolio was comprised of 14 woodblock prints, hand printed to order, each mounted with a thin paper mat, which had the artist's name and title of the print printed on it. Because of the acid paper used at the time, we have removed the mat and stored it in a sleeve attached to the back of the frame. The print is in excellent condition with no foxing or damage.

Weiner's "MILK and HONEY" is an improvisation of Grant Wood's "AMERICAN GOTHIC". He glorifies rural life in the land of milk and honey and transfers the rake to the woman to signify labor equality in the new world order.
