1937 original woodblock from the rare portfolio, "A GIFT TO BIRO-BIJAN-CHICAGO 1937 From Dispair to New Hope". The portfolio was comprised of 14 woodblocks, hand blocked to order, with the edition limited to 200, although it is believed to be much less. The prints were mounted on a thin paper mat that has the title and artist's name printed on it. Because of the acid paper used, we have removed the mat and stored it in a sleeve on the back of the frame. Print is in excellent condition with no foxing.
BRONX EXPRESS is the title of a 1919 play by Osip Dymov (Yosef Perlman). BEKKER presents his image, BRONX EXPRESS, as a caricature composed of a few lines and a neutral white, background.
