Description

Striking Yellow and Black Vase by Gorka Geza. Excellent condition, no chips, scratches, or imperfections. (8 x 3 inches). Livia Gorka, Hungarian, born 1925. Took her certificate as a master potter in 1947. (Her master was her father Gorka Geza, considered one of the founders of modern Hungarian ceramic art-- the Gorka Ceramics Museum was opened in his former home and workshop in 1972.) Ms. Gorka's reputation is comparable to her father's. A freelancing artist, she worked in the Gorka workshop in Veroce until 1959 and in her own studio since then. The source of her art is nature. She adopted the pre-wheel archaic technique of working in clay and uses oxide-glazes and frequently combines clay with metals . She is a member of the Association of Hungarian Artist's (1959) and the Hungarian Art Fund later MAOE (1955) and IAC, Genf.
