"Bathers" by Lucien Herve (Elkán, László)." Oil on canvas, (14 1/4in. x 18 3/8in.) Excellent condition, beautifully framed. Born Elkán, László in Hungary in 1910 and died in 2007. He moved to France in 1929 at age 19 to pursue his studies. He becomes a French citizen in 1937. Active in the French underground in WWII, he takes the Résistance name of Lucien Hervé in 1940 which he uses for the rest of his life. Herve is probably best know as and architectural photographer. He worked closely with Le Corbusier and is also well known for his photographs of Paris. You can see an architectural quality in the powerful impasto and angularity of the figures of this lovely expressionist work. Signed lower right. Comes with a statement of authenticity.
