Reference:

MPD-000644
Description

This interesting American mid Century modern design lamp was designed by Marianna Von Allesch who was born in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. She studied at the Royal academy in Berlin and with Bruno Paul before moving to America in 1928. She designed furniture and glass but is best known for her work in ceramics and especially lamps. In 1956, working with architect Morris Lapidus she supplied lamps for the lobby and rooms of the Americana hotel in Bal Harbor. This lamp with its odd angular shape features an exotic lady incised on the terracotta base. The lady and her dress are glazed in amber, brown, blue, gray and black. The remainder of the vase is covered in a thick dark pewter glaze, from which the lady appears to emerge. The ceramic portion of the lamp is 12 ΒΌ" high. The lamp is signed on the lower rear.
