Description

This American mid-century modern design seven drawer chest was designed ca 1950 by George Nakashima (1905 -1990) for his Origins Line, produced by the Widdicomb Furniture company, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The chest is constructed with east Indian laurel veneers with solid walnut legs. The chest is 45" wide, 22 1/2" deep and 49 1/2" high. The top drawer has a cloth tag reading "Widdicomb Grand Rapids" and is branded "George Nakashima". The underside of the drawer is stenciled "Sundra" (Sanskrit for "things of beauty", a finish Nakashima developed to show the beauty of laurel veneer), "11/58" (the date of manufacture) and "208" (the model number). The inset drawer pulls are brass. The chest is in original excellent condition.
