Description

This American mid-century modern design king size headboard and two nightstands were designed ca 1950 by George Nakashima (1905 -1990) for his Origins Line, produced by the Widdicomb Furniture company, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The headboard and nightstands are in east Indian laurel veneers and solid walnut legs. They are in his Sundra finish (Sundra is Sanskrit for "things of beauty"). The king size headboard is 127" wide and 40 ½" high. It is stenciled "sundra" , "12/58" (the date manufactured) and "0220" (the company model number). The nightstands, which are independent from the headboard, are stenciled on the bottom of the drawers "Sundra" "12/58" (the date manufactured) and "215" (the company model number). A cloth label "Widdicomb Grand Rapids" and a branded signature "George Nakashima" are on the inside of each drawer. Each nightstand is 22 ½" wide , 21" deep and 21" high. The pulls are brass. All three pieces are in excellent original condition.
