Description

Very large Art Deco piece from Boch Freres Keramis (BFK) and iconic Charles Catteau design.
Standing at nearly 40 cm (or 15½"), this is a monumental, period Art Deco vase.
Striking, stylised, hand-painted flowers and a beautiful deep cobalt blue banding sit perfectly on the gently-curved and perfectly-proportioned, strong shape of this vase, which is embossed with its number 782 from form 782.
The design D1081 was painted in early 1927, a 'polychrome design with stylised floral motifs' ('Décor polychrome de motifs floraux stylisés' or 'Meerkleurig decor met gestileerde florale motieven', as it was recorded in Belgium).
It was conceived in the workshop known as the Atelier de Fantasie (ADF) and fits into the painting under enamel style of decoration.
This vase has been used as a lamp. This could have been an original option, as made by the manufacturers, or an later addition. The hole for the cord is sound and neat, and I can arrange for this to be sealed if needed.
At Chateau Antiques we are lucky enough to specialise in Charles Catteau and Boch freres vases. More information and photos on both the manufacturer and artist can be found in our blog post here - Art For All - Charles Catteau's Influence on Boch Freres Keramis and the Art Deco Movement.
