Emil Friedman
1925-1988
Freidman was born in Chicago on October 25, 1925, at age nive he moved with his father to New York City, where he grw up in the Bronx.
He joined the Marines just before he graduated high school, but graduated in 1944, but he was already in the Marines just prior to that. he was a radio operator in the Pacific - he was in Iwo Jima and Kyusho, Japan.
After the Second World War, a lot of schools cropped up because of the G.I. Bill, he found a school on the West Side called the School for Art Studies. It was run by a sculptor called Maurice Glickman, who was sort of well-known in certain circles in New York City. He studied at the Institute of Design and Brooklyn College at Brooklyn College
Friedman was a mid century New York School artist who went to the Arts Students League and Brooklyn College Art School. He did several exhibitions in New York Galleries.
