LA SHRUGGED: Alas, another chance has passed to own used furniture of impeccably peculiar West Coast pedigree, after a Seattle auction house sold a pair of Gilbert Rohde lounge chairs that were formerly the property of No-Ted author and opinionator Ayn Rand. Alas, their history apparently went unremarked, or at least value-unadded, as the two chairs sold for $468, well below a pre-sale estimate of $600-800. What lessons in the workings of capitalism are revealed herein ? Hard to say- could be that Rand fans are all broke, or uninterested, or already sitting down.

Miami is famous for many things, including Latin culture, the art deco district of South Beach, lavish mansions on the bay, yachts, Versace and more, but many people are still overlooking one of the city's greatest attributes: the many examples of 1960s modern architecture in this fine city. Among the finest examples of blending art with architecture is the home of Bacardi USA, Inc. in Miami, Florida: offices and museum, built by the Bacardi family, famous for Bacardi rum and other accomplishments. The museum covers corporate and family history from 1862 through today.
