Description

This German art deco dinanderie vase was made by the Ikora workshop of WMF (Wurttembergishe Metalwarenfabric) ca. 1929. The vase is bulbous in shape and has a decorative leaf pattern on all sides. The vase is brass. The background of the vase pattern is silver plate and the leaves are copper with verdigris accents. The vase was presented as a trophy for the Berlin 1929 Motor Yacht Club von Deutchland regatta. It is engraved near the bottom with the Motor Yacht Club of Germany flag/burgee, “M.Y.C. v D.’ (Motor Yacht Club von Deutschland) and “REGATTA 15.9.29”. The Motor Yacht Club of Germany was formed April 27, 1907. The club is located on the eastern shore of the Great Wannsee in Berlin, Germany. The vase has the WMF mark on the base. The stylized tower is derived from the emblem of Geislingen, a local landmark defensive tower. This mark was used from 1025-1950. WMF, Wurttembergische Metalwarenfabrik, was founded in 1880 after the merger of Straub & Sohn and Ritter & Co. of Esslingen, Germany. The vase is 7” tall by 7” wide at it’s widest point. The mouth is 3” in diameter. The base diameter is 4 ½”.
