Rene Gabriel Photograph

Born in 1890 in Maisons-Alfort, Ile-de-France, he attended the Ecole Germain Pilon and the ENSAD (Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs) in Paris.   He exhibited at the 1925 Paris Exposition and designed for the French Embassy a child's room and a kitchen.  In 1924 he was the recipient of the Blumenthal Prize for excellence in design.  His production oriented designs of affordable furniture were perfect for the production of the period and in 1927 he unvelied his collection of "serially produced" furniture in oak to great success.
At the end of WWII, because of his knowledge of production of affordable furniture,  he was appointed by the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urbanism (MRU) to create a line of furnitrue that could be purchased at a nominal price with Ration Tickets.  Beginning in 1945 he was President of the Society of Interior Design Artists and collaborated with Jean Fressinet in the Ideal Home Exhibition in 1948.  He died in 1950 in Paris.
