Description

Etienne Beothy, "Etude de Corps." Very good condition, 2 pin holes visible in the upper right and left corners. (9 in x 7 in image, 17 1/4 in x 14 1/4 in frame.) Possible study for a sculpture. Istvan (Etienne) Beothy, (1897-1961), Hungarian artist, sculptor and architect who lived and worked in France. After serving in WW I, Beothy began studies in Budapest where was familiarized with the tenets of constructivism and suprematism. From 1920 to 1924 he studied under Janos Vaszary and traveled extensively in Europe settling in Paris in 1925. In 1931 he co-founded the group Abstraction-Creation. Extensively showed in exhibitions in major galleries and museums in Europe.
