A René Lalique molded grey glass clock: Le Jour et la Nuit; depicting a Female and Male nude figures (Night & Day)Marcilhac 728, model introduced Feb 23, 1926
acid stamped R. LALIQUE.
Le jour et la nuit was one of Lalique’s most elaborate 'pendules' and the most expensive, originally selling for 3,500 francs. It was made in gray glass and a very limited edition of colored glas. Its unusual design of a nude man and woman depicts the Greek myth of Day and Night, who live in the same house but who are never allowed to be together except when they pass on the threshold as one returns and the other leaves.
