This is a antique Japanese bronze mixed metal brass and copper box from the Meiji period. It has a remarkable etched wood grain finish embossed throughout the entire exterior of the box as well as applied metal embellishments including floral foliage, bees, insects, a crane, and a mouse, and a waterfall, to name a few. See the pictures for additional images of the embellishments! It is in great antique condition with minimal wear to the outside of the box, and some minimal marks (pictured) to the inside of the box. This hinged box measures 2.25 inches long by 1.5 inches wide.
