This is a RARE pair of original American Art Deco era hanging fixtures referred to as "modernizers" in amber-colored pressed glass. The two-part interlocking shade was designed by Reuben Haley for the Consolidated Lamp & Glass co. located in PA. A design patent was issued on march 5, 1929 for this remarkable hanging shade. The beautiful pressed glass shades contains highly detailed stylized Art Deco floral motifs throughout, reminiscent of the world renowned Rene Lalique's glass. In fact the glass treatments and motifs of Lalique were the main inspiration for this glass line by Consolidated. The two interlocking shades are paired with the original ceiling canopies and original ornamental cast iron ceiling plates with intact bronze wash. The ceiling plates are also decorated in highly stylized Art Deco design. These remarkable fixtures use a single socket and bulb and are newly rewired and ready to hang. It is rare to find these fixtures with all of their original components, and to find a pair in this condition is almost unheard of. They do have some tiny flea bites to the interior of the glass, which are invisible when the fixture is in place, and a small ding to one of the metal canopies. Over all, these are in as good of condition as one could ever hope to find.
The overall dimensions of each complete fixture are 11 1/2" wide at the widest, and it hangs down about 9 1/2" from the ceiling. The specific dimensions of the individual parts are:
The backplate is 8 3/4" across. The canopy is is 5 5/8" across at the widest. Together, without the glass, the fixture hangs down about 4" from the ceiling. The ribbed cup shaped glass shade is 4 1/4" long and 4 1/4" wide at the widest. The main shade is 11 1/4" across and about 3" deep. When all put together, the fixture hangs down from the ceiling about 9 1/2".
