Description

Monumental Hall Lantern of Exceptional Quality, in Italian Renaissance Style.
Mostly of Cast Brass construction, this light features its original set of bevelled glass (a couple of corners chipped), which is very rare.
This is an unusual light for a few reasons;
Most fixtures of this kind are hung on 2 rods, this has 3.
It is definitely oversized, being nearly 5 feet long,
and at the base, rather than having a closed flat panel, this fixture has a spun and hand punched out base, adorned with smiling dragons and grimacing lions. All these factors point to it being a custom manufacture.
It is certainly American in origin, but the maker can not be attributed.
Converted from gas to electric early on in its life, maybe around 1900.
All in all a very interesting and beautiful piece.
