Henri De Waroquier was a painter, sculptor and engraver who was born in Paris on January 8, 1881 and died in Paris, December 31, 1970.  He had an exceptionally long career.   Since the very beginning of the 20th century, he was accustomed to seeing his works figure prominently in major annual exhibitions including the Salon d'Automne, which he served as president, and the Society of Painters Engravers Independents, of which he was a Founding Member.

In his teens he lived in the Rue Laffitte, in front of the store of Ambroise Vollard, not far from the Durand-Ruel Gallery and Hotel Bing, where he formed his taste by looking at the works of Impressionists and the Far East.
